Artist Spotlight
I have been creating Art since I retired in 2011.
After a long career in Animal Care and having an extremely busy lifestyle, my son and daughter understood that it would be very difficult for me fill all my spare time. Knowing that I had enjoyed Art at school and had relished the rare opportunities I had to do anything creative, they gifted me some equipment and materials and encouraged me to take art lessons and also find an art group. I followed their advice, finding a lovely art teacher in Lambley and about a year later joining Arnold Art Society. With the various activities, events and workshops available, I started to explore and develop my craft and attempted so much more than I thought possible. Being a member, alongside other likeminded and friendly people, has furthered my development as an artist immensely. My media of choice are oils, pastels and coloured pencils, whichever best compliments the subject.
Most of my pieces include animals or people, maybe because both were my focus for so many years, but I also enjoy losing myself in a landscape or seascape occasionally. After starting out painting purely for my own enjoyment and producing artworks for family and friends, I now take outside commissions for animal and human portraits and memorable scenes.
